Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive Paro (2,200m)
A spectacular arrival into Paro, with breathtaking views of Everest, Khangchendzonga (formally Kanchenjunga) and other famous Himalayan peaks. A traditional welcome to this remote kingdom and private transfer to your hotel (D).

Day 02 Design Your Day Paro
Today, depending on your energy and fitness levels, choose one of the following activities for the day. Drive through the valley to the ruined fortress, Drukgyel Dzong. Built in 1647 the buidling commemorates the Bhutanese victory over the Tibetans in the war of 1644. Journey onwards to visit Rinpung Dzong with its stunning views and finish at the former watch tower and the National Museum, Ta Dzong. For those more active, walk up to Taktshang Lhakhang, Tiger’s Nest. This challenging walk is one of the subcontinents hidden gems, a spectacular setting nestled into the cliff face, it is the quintessential snapshot of this rarely visited kingdom (B,L,D).

Day 03 Paro- Thimphu (2,400m)
A drive through the hills takes you to Thimphu, a small and charming city it is also the capital of Bhutan. Thimphu, along with the rest of Bhutan, has managed to retain its traditional style. A leisurely walk through the streets will highlight the culture through the architecture and people, clothed in traditional dress – gho (men’s robe) or kira (women’s dress) (B,L,D).

Day 04 Thimphu
Today your private guide introduces you to the sights of Thimphu. Visit the memorial chortan, a huge stupa built in the memory of the third King of Bhutan. Stop at the Painting and Woodcraft school where traditional art and craft is kept alive and finally vists the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved. Following lunch visit Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest fortresses in Bhutan built in 1629 (B,L,D).

Day 05 Thimphu- Punakha (1,300m)
Drive over the Dochu La (Pass) where at 3,050m on a clear day, you will have your first glimpse of the central-eastern Himalayan range. Visit Wangduephodrang Dzong (monastery) and explore the town of Punakha (B,L,D).

Day 06 Punakha
This morning visit Punakha Dzong, considered to be the most beautiful in the country, this strategically built structure is situated at the confluence of two rivers – Pho Chhu (male river) Mo Chhu (female river). Built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, it has been destroyed by four fires, an earthquake and flooding, and today is fully restored to its former glory. Afternoon at leisure (B,L,D).

Day 07 Paro
This afternoon return back to where your journey first started, in Paro. Visit a traditional Bhutanese farm house en route, for an insight into local farm life (B,L,D).
