Qantas opens new Melbourne domestic business class lounge

Qantas’s new Melbourne domestic business class lounge is now open with more space and a ‘supper club’ feel to the design.

Business class passengers and Platinum-grade frequent flyers can look forward todarker tenors and chic trimmings, natural timber floors, with brass and metal fittings. The new look is meant to reflect the trendy, urbaneness of Melbourne.

The centrepiece of the new Melbourne domestic business class lounge is a bar completed with Nero Marquina marble from Norther Spain. The bar serves beer, wine, and spirits as well as barista-made coffee.

More exciting upgrades to look forward to when the overhaul is completed in November is the Spice Bar, which will serve Oriental flavours including freshly made noodles and Asian street food.

The buffet area has gained more space with hot and cold dishes offered, again with Asian options such as fried rice and noodles. There is also a ‘Quench’ hydration station where hot teas and cool drinks are available.

In the actual ‘lounging’ areas, there are AC and USB sockets aplenty to meet all customer connectivity and charging needs.

The new Melbourne domestic business class lounge inhabits the whole of the northern part of the domestic lounge area. Full-height windows affords the lounge added natural lighting, thereby giving the feeling of more space, and views that were previously given to the Qantas Club.

A communal atmosphere is created by the new circular benches and small coffee tables whilst the workstations have received a smart revamp.

The lounge also now has its own dedicated entrance, where passengers now turn left at the top of the escalators rather than going through the Qantas Club as was the previous route.

This is only the first stage of refurbishments, with more upgrades to be added and an expected completion date of November. The new Melbourne domestic business class lounge is part of Qantas’ multi-million-dollar global lounge improvement program that will see the carrier upgrade six lounges in Auckland, Brisbane, Hobart, Sydney, Tamworth, and Tokyo.
