Phillip Island is a small island off the coast of Victoria and is one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations, visited by over 3.5 million tourists annually. The island is home to the Fairy Penguin, and thousands flock to see the nightly parade, as they emerge from the sea and make their way to the nesting boxes.
The popular island is also occupied by Australia’s largest fur seal colony at Seal Rocks. You can spot sea birds or marvel at koalas at Maru Koala and Animal Park or take a trip to one of the many ruggedly spectacular peninsulas including; Summerland Peninsula or Cape Woolamai. For the more adventurous at heart, take a look at the Formula One Grand Prix Circuit – the world-renowned motorcycle, superbike and state circuit.
The island is named after Arthur Phillip (1738-1814), the first Governor of New South Wales, the island forms a natural breakwater for Western Port’s shallow waters.
