Hotel de La Paix has been named Hotel Project of the Year at the World Architecture News (WAN) Interior Design Awards 2011.
The hotel’s interiors are the work of Thai architect and design visionary Duangrit Bunnag who said he intended his design to “portray this historical direction in a contemporary vocabulary”. He has succeeded in creating a utterly unique resort that does reflect both the ancient and modern side of this historical building. The fabric patterns on the walls were inspired by the city’s hues, the dark concrete floor tiles have been made using local expertise and the design of the bed was inspired by the Queen’s bed from the city’s museum.
The WAN Interior Design Awards 2011 is a major international competition that celebrates and promotes the best in international interior design, attracting entries from all over the world and showcasing winners on a global platform.
