VILLA IL RIGOGOLO – Tuscany

This beautiful villa, originally an ancient classical farmhouse with tower and built entirely of local stone, is situated in a stunning position with views over the surrounding countryside of vineyards and woods. Rectangular in shape, the house has a large covered terrace area with arches on the ground floor and an arched covered terrace on the first floor from where the views can be enjoyed. The nearby castles of Spaltenna, San Donato in Perano and Vertine can be seen from the property and, on clear days, the views stretch to the Castle of Brolio. At night, the lights at Vertine provide a romantic backdrop for meals by candlelight on the first floor terrace, or the vine-covered loggia below.

Radda in Chianti, with all necessary shops and a selection of restaurants and cafés is 5 kms away and both Siena and Florence are easily accessible at 29 kms and 60 kms respectively. The villa is approached just off the road which runs between Montevarchi and Radda in Chianti, up a cypress tree lined driveway. It is surrounded by a well maintained garden with lawns and trees, and there is a beautiful 14 x 7m swimming pool with diving board from where the wonderful views can also be enjoyed. There are ample sun loungers, as well as a small building with barbecue, a kitchenette and a bathroom with WC washbasin and shower. In a far corner of the grounds there is a converted barn, with separate access, where the owner lives occasionally when he is in residence and where the two housekeepers live.

The villa is beautifully furnished in a traditional style with wood beamed ceilings, terracotta tiled floors and whitewashed walls. The layout is such, with a kitchen, living area and bedrooms on each floor, that it would be ideal for two families or groups of friends wanting to holiday together yet retain a degree of privacy. Families with very small children, please note that there is no shallow end in the pool (minimum depth of 1 metre) and access is by ladder, not steps). Amenities at the property include telephone with internet access, fax, satellite television and stereo system. Central heating is charged extra. There is also a wood burning oven for baking pizza and bread.

Ground Floor
Entrance via the large covered ground floor terrace with dining and seating areas. Kitchen with gas/electric hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Dining room. 2 twin bedrooms. Sitting room with TV. Study with single sofa-bed and internet access. 2 bathrooms (bath/shower attachment).

First Floor
Stairs from the ground floor terrace lead up to the first floor covered terrace with dining area. A small room off the stairway has a utility room with washing machine. Large glass doors open from the terrace to a spacious living room with large fireplace. Kitchen with gas/electric hob, oven, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Formal dining room. 3 double bedrooms. 3 bathrooms (all with bath).

Second Floor
A steep wooden staircase leads up to the tower with a beautiful sitting room/TV room with windows all around and wonderful views over the valley.

Maid service is provided by the two housekeepers for 4 hours daily, Monday to Sunday at a cost of €350 per week. They will also cook upon request.
