A&K has been granted special access to the private residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur’s City Palace, Chandra Mahal. Closed to the everyday traveller, A&K takes you behind the scenes of the palace. Wander through the ornate rooms, decorated in traditional Rajasthani style of paintings, floral decoration and mirrored walls. Finish your visit with a cocktail.

Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive Mumbai
Arrive to a personalised welcome to India and a private transfer to your hotel overlooking the harbour.

Day 02 Design Your Day Mumbai
A selection of touring options to introduce you to this vibrant city. Choose two of the following: a half day orientation tour of the city visiting the colossal Gateway of India, Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan Museum, showcasing the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi and the colourful Dhobi Ghats (Mumbai’s unique outdoor laundry); or choose with a walking tour of the fresh produce available at Crawford Market followed by exploration on foot of Mumbai’s colonial heritage buildings; visit the ornate 8th century cave temples, Elephanta Island by boat or travel out of Mumbai for the day to the rarely explored Kanheri Caves (B)

Day 03 Mumbai-Nagpur-Pench National Park
An early flight takes you into the heart of India where the regal tiger resides. This afternoon take a safari through the teak forests of Pench in search for the majestic and elusive Royal Bengal tiger (B,L,D).

Day 04 Pench National Park
A day of discovery with morning and afternoon safaris (one offered on elephant back!) Pench has provided inspiration to many authors, the most famous, Rudyard Kipling’s ‘Jungle Book’. In addition to the famous tiger, the national park is also home to the leopard, jungle cat, civets, wild dog, wild boar, jackals and Sloth bear and many varieties of birds (B,L,D)

Day 05 Pench National park – Nagpur – Mumbai – Jaipur
Return to Nagpur and fly to the fabled pink city of Jaipur.

Day 06 Jaipur
This morning your A&K guide introduces you to this amazing ancient walled city. Visit the rambling City Palace complex, a spectacular example of Rajput and Mughal architecture. See Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), a pink sandstone facade of a palace built for the ladies of the harem, and take a rickshaw ride through the colourful and chaotic market. Your afternoon is at leisure to further explore. This evening return to the City Palace for a behind the scenes visit of the private residence of the royal family.

Day 07 Design Your Day Jaipur
Choose two of the following private sightseeing options to design your perfect day in Jaipur. Take a short drive out of Jaipur, through the rugged countryside to the Amber Fort, a magnificent fortress palace. Travel up the hillside by jeep through the palace gates and wander through the many regal rooms. Perhaps visit a private home of an Indian family and learn the secrets of Indian cuisine. Let your A&K guide walk you through the aromatic spice and vegetable market of the Old City, or take you on a shopping trip where your private vehicle is on hand to carry your purchases!

Day 08 Jaipur – Ranthambore National Park
Drive to Ranthambore National Park for another opportunity to view tiger. A wildlife sanctuary since 1955, Ranthambore has earned itself a reputation as one of the best parks in India to view this endangered species. Afternoon safari by jeep (B,D).

Day 09 Ranthambore national park
A final day on the trail of the tiger. A morning and/or afternoon gamedrive in the park are your last opportunities to witness and photograph these creatures in their natural home (B, L, D).

Day 10 Ranthambore National Park – Fatehpur Sikri – Agra
Experience the chaos of rail travel in India as you travel aboard the Jan Shatabdi this morning to Bharatpur. Your A&K vehicle awaits you as you continue your journey by road to the 16th century sandstone fortress of Fatehpur Sikri, an extraordinarily well preserved abandoned Moghul city. Arrive in Agra this afternoon in time to visit the magnificent Taj Mahal at sunset. India’s most famous monument, this glistening marble tomb was built for Shah Jahan’s beloved Mumtaz Mahal (B).

Day 11 Agra – Sikandra – Delhi
Rise early and return to the Taj Mahal again at sunrise when the morning light bathes the marble dome and minarets in softness. Following breakfast visit Agra Fort with its imposing gates and sandstone walls. Travel by road to Delhi, visiting the tomb of the great moghul Emperor Akbar at Sikandra en route (B).

Day 12 Depart Delhi
A final day takes you on a half day tour of both Old and New Delhi, from the hustle and bustle of Old Delhi’s bazaars to the wide, leafy avenues of New Delhi. Your afternoon is at leisure for last minute shopping, with use of your room until your departure. An evening transfer to the airport completes this amazing Indian journey (B).
