Julian H. Robertson, legendary hedge fund manager and philanthropist, has invested heavily in his 30-year love affair with New Zealand. Together with his late wife, Josie, and their family, Julian has created three of Asia-Pacific’s most feted luxury lodges and two of the very best golf courses in the world.
The Tiger Tour is Julian’s personal vision of how discriminating travelers can best experience his favourite destination and meet the people who make New Zealand so special. He invites you to see and experience this country as he sees it, and discover the immense charm of New Zealand’s diverse, beguiling landscape. This boutique, luxury tour provides an opportunity to make memories that are not possible within any single country anywhere else in the world.
Starting in the wine region Hawke’s Bay, travelling to the alpine lake village of Queenstown and concluding in the sub-tropical far north, the Tiger Tour connects guests (via private jet and EC-130 B4 helicopter) with some of the most unique, contrasting, untouched scenery on Earth, from private pink-sand beaches and spectacular volcanoes, to lakes, mountains and monolithic glaciers. To all of this, The Tiger Tour adds an extra-special component: the unique, disarming charm of your Kiwi hosts.
The Tiger Tour
Incorporating the best of New Zealand’s North and South Islands, the Tiger Tour features nine nights, three award-winning lodges and dozens out-of-this-world destination options. The Tour is inclusive of acclaimed cuisine, green fees at stunning golf courses, quintessentially Kiwi experiences and the opportunity to mingle with distinctive New Zealanders, human and otherwise.
Your first destination is The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, located in the heart of Hawke’s Bay Wine Country. The property features a world-renowned golf course designed by architect Tom Doak. Situated high above the Pacific, atop dramatic white cliffs, this layout has been hailed as one of golf’s modern marvels by the world golfing press, including a ranking among the Top 35 courses on Earth. Aside from its celebrated wines, the area’s exquisitely rugged landscape represents a singular opportunity to explore the beauty of this island nation’s rare and idiosyncratic wildlife.
The next stop is the new Matakauri Lodge. Magnificently situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Matakauri provides an intimate, luxuriously chic base camp for some of the most exciting aspects of this itinerary. Queenstown complements its well earned reputation as ‘Adventure Capital of the World’ with sumptuous wine, cuisine and shopping. This small village is also gateway to the mind-blowing glaciers and fjords of Milford Sound.
The Tiger Tour concludes at the inimitable Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, with the Cavalli Islands and Cape Brett providing the backdrop to another world-renowned golf course, this one designed by David Harman. Fifteen holes boast long, splendid views of the South Pacific, while six play directly alongside cliffs that plunge down to the sea. The course is also ranked among the Top 100 in the world and the surrounding area is known across the Southern Hemisphere for its beautiful beaches, spectacular sailing and world-class deep-sea fishing.
Put simply, with each passing day this tour sets the extraordinary side by side with the intimate, and bathes it all in world-class luxury.
