Saffire, Freycinet

Magnificent in every detail, Saffire is defined by its subtle but chic interiors, and a fluid architectural design. Water is a strong theme here with reflective ponds, calming spas and the sanctuary’s pool. Glass has been cleverly used throughout, creating a sense that the sanctuary and the environment are the same space.

All the suites are luxuriously appointed, featuring the best in design and furnishings. The furnishings are an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary, with locally made timber pieces alongside mid-century classics such as chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames and Herman Miller.

Beautiful though Saffire is, however, it plays second fiddle to the surrounding landscapes. The powder-white sandy beaches are as undisturbed and uncrowded as they were in the early 1800s, when French explorer Nicholas Baudin stepped ashore. Southern Right Whales continue on their annual migration in intensely turquoise waters, and wildlife roams the heath and forests in abundance.

Why we like it

  • All suites have private courtyards and decks with views of the Hazards Mountains, crystal-clear blue waters and white sandy beaches
  • Saffire is a luxury sanctuary on Tasmania’s east coast
  • The restaurant, Palate, showcases the best Tasmania has to offer
  • Spa Saffire is wonderful – highly trained therapists offer an array of innovative treatments
  • Other facilities include a ‘classic cool’ lounge with panoramic views, a courtyard, a gym, a magnificent collection of artwork, mountain bikes, kayaks, cookery classes and a wide range of excursions and experiences
