Edenhouse, Malborough

Nestled in a serene valley in the heart of rural Nelson, Edenhouse is an overdue reminder of the genuine meaning of luxury. This prestigious lodge is situated within 48-acres of private grounds and internationally acclaimed gardens and is perfectly positioned between Nelson and The Abel Tasman National Park, at the top of the South Island. It may just be the finest boutique hotel you will encounter – evidenced by its repeated recognition by such discerning international judges as Tatler magazine’s guide to the world’s 101 best hotels, and UK House and Garden. The highly-regarded Robb Report included Edenhouse in its list of “The World’s Top 100 Resorts”.

The excellence here owes everything to Peter and Bobbie Martin, who designed Edenhouse drawing on Bobbie’s skills and talents honed at the Inchbald School of Design and The English Gardening School in London. They are fully committed to taking care of guests, and are assisted by a team of twelve who all live in the local valley. Choose to stay in either the two luxurious suites in the main lodge or the beautifully appointed and very private two-bedroom, two-bathroom garden cottage. Meals are created from local produce, which burst with freshness and flavour, matched with award winning local wines that delight the palette.

The surrounding region is known for its trout-fishing rivers, wild mountains, pristine countryside, cerulean bays, and the golden, postcard beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park. Artisan food producers, a thriving arts and crafts community, and internationally reputed wineries are all within easy range of Edenhouse. The Abel Tasman National Park consistently ranks as one of the five top tourist attractions in New Zealand.

This is a place where even the busiest guests will soon reacquaint themselves with the simple pleasures and the unbridled possibilities of life. All in a setting of beauty, privacy and luxury – in its genuine sense.
