Kota Kinabalu, the capital city, is the first touchdown point for most international visitors. Known as Jesselton during the time of British North Borneo Company, Kota Kinabalu today has a population of 300,000.
A number of attractions and pursuits are available within easy reach of Kota Kinabalu. Amongst them are the five nature islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park located so near and “yet so far". The must-see Kinabalu Park with its’ botanical treasures, and Mt Kinabalu, the highest peak in South East Asia. The small-town markets (Tamu) where local indigenous people congregate, Bajau fishing villages, and the train service that runs on the only railway line on Borneo island.
