Japan | The Snow Monkey
Set off on your private jet for Tokyo, Japan (crossing the International Dateline en route), and arrive to an evening dinner of sushi and sake. Travel to Joshinetsu Kogen National Park in Nagano and take a pleasant walk through the park to meet the Japanese macaque, commonly known as the snow monkey. Enjoy a special talk conducted by the director of the national park before heading to lunch. Dine at your choice of one of A&K’s hand-picked restaurants in Tokyo.
Design Your Day with a guided exploration of Tokyo, taking in the Meiji Jingu and Asakusa Kannon Temple, and visit a sumo stable. Alternately, stroll through a Japanese garden and then sit down to a tea ceremony in a traditional tea house, or learn the art of Japanese calligraphy from a master artist. In the afternoon, relax and enjoy a spa treatment, compliments of A&K, or shop alongside a personal shopper. Tonight, attend a celebratory dinner hosted by expert geisha.

The Phillippines | Tarsiers & Whale Sharks
Celebrate your arrival in Cebu, the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines, during a beachfront Playa del Fuego cocktail reception and dinner. The next morning, set out via private helicopter for Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Visit the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary at Corella for a chance to see one of the world’s smallest, and rarest, primates in its natural habitat. These shy creatures are difficult to keep in captivity and seeing them in person is a rare treat. Continue to the Chocolate Hills, a region famous for its undulating topography — here you have the opportunity to interact with local children as they perform traditional songs and dances. Enjoy a private recital by the renowned Loboc children’s choir.
Design Your Day the next day with your choice of activities. Malaysia | Honey Bears & Orangutans
Board your private jet this morning for your flight to exotic Borneo. Proceed to the hotel and enjoy time at leisure before a celebratory evening that begins with a talk by one of the world’s foremost conservation activists, and concludes with a Malaysian food fair, featuring demonstrations from five of the unique ethnic groups that make Borneo their home. The next morning, set out on an excursion to the wildlife sanctuaries of Sepilok. Visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre for a lecture followed by a stroll on the boardwalk in search of the sun bear, also known as the honey bear for its voracious appetite for honeycombs and honey. There are 44 rescued bears at the centre, thriving within a natural environment while being prepared to re-enter the wild.
Continue to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, one of the best places to observe this critically endangered primate, and enjoy a behind-the-scenes opportunity to observe young orangutans as they are conditioned to return to the jungle. Return to your hotel to freshen up before tonight’s exclusive visit to the Agnes Keith House and dinner at the colonial-style English Tea House and Restaurant.

India | The Elusive Bengal Tiger
Arrive in Jaipur, India’s fabled “PinkCity,” where you are greeted with a traditional maharajah’s welcome. This evening, enjoy a village-themed dinner on the lawns of Rambagh Palace. The next day, drive to Ranthambore National Park, where you and your expert trackers search for the greatest of all the great cats, the Bengal tiger, so endangered that there are more specimens in captivity in the United States than remain in the wild. Spanning about 250 square miles, the forests of Ranthambore were once the private hunting grounds of the maharajahs of Jaipur, and their desire to preserve game in these forests is partially responsible for making Ranthambore the finest habitat in the world to see wild tigers.
Explore on morning and afternoon jungle drives, watching for these magnificent predators as well as the numerous other species that call the park home, including the wild boar, deer, antelope and sloth bear. Mughal ruins, palaces and tombs also dot the tree-clad hills. Gather for dinner in the Mango Orchard, an intimate natural space hung with lanterns and suffused with the scent of blossoming mango trees. Take an excursion to the Nosy Antsoha Reserve for an encounter with Madagascar’s endemic primates, the lemurs. Rambagh Palace, Jaipur
Newly honoured amongst ‘The Best Hotels in the World’ in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2019 UK and USA and #2 in the Top 15 Hotels in India category, the stately Rambagh Palace is spread over 47 acres of tranquil, landscaped gardens. Once a royal hunting lodge for the Maharajah of Jaipur, this sophisticated palace resort exudes regal elegance – from its antique chandeliers to the peacocks on the lawn. Rich textures, opulent furnishings and exquisite objets d’art abound, whilst the expansive, ornamental gardens are arranged in brilliant symmetry. Rooms boast opulent interiors, hand painted motifs on the walls, regal four-poster beds, walk-in wardrobes and luxurious bathrooms. The atmospheric Polo Bar serves up signature cocktails inspired by the royal sport while fine dining in Suvarna Mahal is an unforgettable experience. Aman-i-Khas, Ranthambore
Surrounded by the starkly beautiful Aravalli Hills, Aman-i-Khas provides access to the wildlife of Ranthambore National Park. Guests can also explore the region’s ancient forts and colourful rural villages nearby.
The camp features 10 luxury tents, each set on a raised concrete plinth. They echo the rich Moghul travelling tents of bygone days with ‘rooms’ separated by cotton drapes. Constructed of canvas and supported by a steel frame, with interior walls and ceilings draped in fine cotton, each tent measures 108m². Entry is through a screened area that contains an armchair, dining table and chairs. There is also room to sit outside on the concrete deck. The centre of the tent, with its soaring six-metre canopy, features an oversized daybed ideal for lounging.
Opening out from the central area are three sections for sleeping, bathing and dressing. The bedroom area is fitted with a king-size bed flanked by twin writing desks. The bathing area includes a shower, soaking tub and separate toilet, whilst the dressing area contains cupboards with closet space and twin vanities.
The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Ranthambore National Park
Nestled in a picture-perfect setting with a dramatic watercourse and sun-kissed private decks, The Oberoi Vanyavilas is India’s leading luxury jungle resort. This is the perfect base from which to explore the territory of the majestic tiger, which is most commonly sighted during the months of May and June.
The luxury tents with finely embroidered canopies, luxurious bathrooms and private walled gardens are in perfect contrast to the ruggedness of the jungle. All tents, each 73-square-metres, have private sitting areas and outside decks for sunbathing. They feature king size four-poster beds, freestanding roll-top baths and separate showers. All have wooden floors and embroidered interior canopies and are furnished in regal style.
Singita Kwitonda Lodge, Parc National des Volcans
Set in Rwanda’s northwestern reaches, right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, Singita Kwitonda Lodge’s unparalleled position puts life-changing gorilla-trekking experiences within easy reach.
Each of the lodge’s eight luxurious suites features a private heated plunge pool, in-and outdoor fireplaces and large timber-framed windows that welcome the breathtaking scenery and volcano views inside. Elements such as woven ceilings and hand-fired terracotta brickwork crafted by local artisans highlight the authentic East African appeal of this remarkable lodge. Guests can also choose to relax with in-room wellness treatments available.
A central hub with beautiful indoor and outdoor living spaces serves as the heart of Singita Kwitonda Lodge. This space exudes relaxation, with lounges, dining areas, an outdoor fire pit, an interactive kitchen, bar deli and a wine cellar for guests to enjoy.
Kwitonda’s farm-to-table food journey celebrates Rwandese cuisine and fresh produce from the on-site garden, while the Akarabo Nursery is a fundamental part of Singita’s ambitious undertaking to contribute to the long-term conservation of endangered mountain gorillas by increasing their habitat through reforestation.
Angama Mara, Masai Mara
Angama Mara is set across three kopjes in the Rift Valley, overlooking the Mara below. The tented suites are strung out across two of the kopjes, but third remains untouched: this is the very site where the loveliest scenes from the Oscar-winning film Out of Africa were filmed, such as horse-riding and the famous picnic scene. It’s no wonder, as the area is one of the most beautiful – not to mention unspoilt – areas of Kenya. While tented camps in the Mara are the norm, what defines Angama is certainly its exceptional location: every tented suite shares panoramic view of the Mara below, with almost ring-side seats for the Great Migration which runs from July to October each year. The site is split into two camps of 15 tents each, meaning it feels intimate and relaxed, and totally uncrowded. There are two sets of interconnected guest suites in each of the two camps, so families needn’t miss out on the views (children of all ages are welcome).
The tents themselves seem to hang off the escarpment, maximising those priceless views. The interiors are minimalistic and contemporary to focus the attention on the views, with end to end glass frontages, sweeping canvas, polished parquet and just the right amount of furniture from which to enjoy looking down onto the Mara. At the Pavilion, the centre of the two camps, you’ll find a fitness centre, a swimming pool, an art gallery with pieces available for purchase and a sun-filled studio where Maasai women bead bespoke items for sale. Activities on offer include safaris into the Mara Triangle, walking safaris on the escarpment, in room massage, hot air balloon safari and community visits.
The focus at Angama (after the view) is on service, service, service. Angama’s staff village has been built from scratch with the same attention to details as the guest accommodation, fulfilling the ethos that happy staff create a happy environment. The staff village includes a community-owned shop and clinic.
